Finding a therapist in Burlington

Looking for help takes courage. Admitting you can't do everything on your own is the first step toward wellness in a fast paced, demanding world, and the good news is that asking gets easier with a little practice.

I'm Michelle Directo, a Registered Psychotherapist and Expressive Arts Practitioner with a private practice in Burlington. I've been practicing since 2018 and hold a Master of Divinity in Clinical Counselling from Tyndale University and Seminary. My previous work in health care shaped a style that's non-judgmental, compassionate and built on genuine listening.

Where I practice

In-person sessions are held at The Therapy Commons, 3425 Harvester Road, Burlington, Ontario L7N 3N1, just off the QEW, with free parking on site and a quiet, private entrance.

I also see clients online throughout Ontario, which many people find easier to fit around work, childcare and commuting. Sessions are held over a secure video platform and booked through Owl Practice.

Who I work with

How I work

I draw on a range of approaches rather than forcing one model onto every person: expressive arts, cognitive and cognitive-behavioural therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy, emotionally focused therapy, family systems, biopsychosocial, integrative and psychoeducational.

There's also a growing body of research supporting self-compassion and mindfulness in psychotherapy. Neuroscience shows people who practice these techniques are happier, more resilient, and better equipped to heal painful memories.

What a first session looks like

The first 60 minutes are mostly about context: what brought you here, what you've already tried, and what you'd like to be different. There's no expectation you'll have it neatly articulated. Many people arrive knowing only that something feels off, and that's a perfectly good place to start.

Rates and insurance

Individual sessions are $175 for 60 minutes. Couple, familial and friendship sessions are $225 for 75 minutes. Services from a Registered Psychotherapist may be covered in full or in part by extended health insurance or an employee benefit plan. worth confirming your annual limit and per-session amount with your provider before we begin.

Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice are charged in full.
